What do you do when when shooting a bridal portrait, in July, in North Carolina? You stay inside! LOL. Sarah was having her wedding at the Umstead Hotel in Cary, NC and, honestly, you couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous location for any portrait session.
The Hotel, located in Cary, NC on the SAS campus, features a beautifully modern interior adorned with local & world renowned artists in every direction. The exterior of the hotel is wrapped in exquisitely landscaped natural areas with pathways down to the pond. Here you will find 2 different fountains, a paved walkway around the water and elevated dock walkways which let you walk over the water for a good portion of the lake.
We started her portrait session inside as it was quite warm outside (97 degrees with high humidity). The Umstead Hotel really lends itself to a more modern style of shooting, using stronger lighting on your subject to really showcase the angles and architecture of the hotel. We eventually went outside for about 15 minutes. While we both wanted longer, when wearing a wedding gown, the heat build up under the dress just becomes too much, so better safe than sorry.
I hope you enjoy a few different photos from Sara’s Umstead Hotel Bridal portraits. Feel free to check out their engagement session &, of course, their wedding photos. If you’d like to find out more about their wedding photography, please reach out to me!
