Carmen & Jim | Wedding at the 2nd Empire

After a lovely break from weddings in August to work on other projects, I am back in full swing over the next few months. I certainly got off to a great start with another of my great Downtown Raleigh Weddings being held at the 2nd Empire.  Carmen & Jim are a couple I had been working with for a while now and was really excited for their wedding to arrive.  As they both love traveling, they themed their wedding as such and had a ton of great details for their intimate wedding.

First, Carmen arrived in a beautiful Excalbur, provided by Classy Transportation, to the 2nd empire.  Something about that car and downtown Raleigh weddings just go together.  I think the fact its a convertible and class just makes it fit.  Anyway, Carmen’s dress was a one of a kind creation made specially for her wedding.  After she got dressed, we had just a quick minute to get a shot in the 2nd empire wine cellar before we headed up to the wedding ceremony.  They had their ceremony in the parlor in front of the bay window.  The light at this time of day was absolutely gorgeous and it added a beautiful glow behind them.  One of my favorite people, Kayelilly, officiated the affair and, for the first time ever, a Dr. Seuss quotation was used during the ceremony (at the couples request).

After a great ceremony and family formals, we headed out to do some couple shots.  With it being almost high noon, we opted to stay in the shade for the most part but did use a couple tricks I have to get some great shots of them with the car.  We headed to the reception downstairs to greet their friends and family who had gathered.  Among the beautiful travel themed wedding decorations she had, there was a luggage cake from Sweet Memories (Yes, that is indeed a cake),  glass globe centerpieces, airplane name tags, and a vintage suitcase to gather cards.

After dancing, dining and an all around great wedding reception, Carmen, Jim & Myself all headed into Moore square for some more wedding day portraits with the happy couple.  We ended up popping our heads into the Segway store and they graciously let us borrow two of them for a couple of shots (Both the bride & groom had ridden them before).  We headed back to the car after this and we said or goodbyes for the day.

Carmen & Jim, thank you so much for having me with you on your wedding day.  I had an absolute blast working with you both and the photos came out phenomenal!  I hope you enjoy and, for everyone else, here are a few select ones from Carmen & Jim’s wedding day.
