While there are lots of venues I have photographed at, one thing I have/had yet to capture was a Merrimon-Wynne house wedding. This venue is a gorgeous restored historic home located in downtown Raleigh. This multi-use property has a ton of space for both the bride & groom to get ready in the main house, an outdoor ceremony area and completely separate reception area. Regardless of where we were here, it truly makes for spectacular photography.
Laura & Phil are, quite honestly, my type of people. Direct, sarcastic and hesitant to let any wisecrack go unspoken. A big part of photography is the dynamic between the photographer and the client. Having that great banter back and forth truly makes for the best photography!
As you can tell in the photos, they had their ceremony right at sunset. While most merrimon-wynne wedding photos you see are during the day, I had the special privilege of shooting their outdoor wedding ceremony at night. Twilight allows us to bring these amazing colors into play for their photos. While you can’t really see it with the naked eye, the rich blues show up in photos which makes for truly unique shots from their ceremony.
As we headed into the wedding reception we had the fun surprise of being told our cards may be getting towed. The road out front was being resurfaced and they messed up the signage.. luckily we always have 2 photographers so Rebecca moved our cars and came back just as the first dance began. It’s what I love about weddings – the dynamic nature of the event and how to creatively problem solve even the most far-fetched issues.
Those that know me know i’m a little crazy. Luckily, I let my clients know this in advance as well. lol. One of my favorite shots of the evening was after I asked the bride & groom to lie down on the floor and “stare lovingly into each other’s eyes”. The resulting photo, taken from the 3rd floor down the staircase, is something I have only been able to capture one time before. Needless to say this absolutely made my night!
