For any readers of my blog, you can see I am at Duke Chapel quite often. Let’s be honest, there are worse places to be a photographer. ;) Samantha & Curtis held their wedding at Duke Chapel during the first ceremony slot of the day at 12pm. This gives us amazing light to work with inside the chapel, but outside it can be a challenge. One I was totally up for because the more adverse the conditions, typically the cooler stuff you can make happen. One of my favorite bridal portraits was shot just as we went to go outside for her first look. But I digress…
Curtis is, obviously, in the military and with him in uniform against the backdrop of a duke chapel wedding just fits so well. We had one of my top 10 ever first looks complete with squeals, tears, laughter and so many lovely emotions I may have gotten a little misty myself. That was quickly remedied as we ad been joking back and forth the whole morning and the misty turned to tears of laughter as someone started making wisecracks again.
After the wedding ceremony we left for their reception at the Cotton Room, one of durham’s premiere wedding reception halls. Their in-house catering delivers amazing food and their staff matches with amazing service. The band started up the party and, well, let’s just say for a daytime reception there was no shortage of party! The bride & groom love playing jokes on each other so when he went to remove her garter, he only found a Smirnoff Ice. Following tradition, the groom dropped to one knee and chugged it right then. You have to love couples who know how to have fun!
I hope you enjoyed hearing about their wedding and the photos below:
