Simply put, Brian is amazing! I have done shoots in the past and my fiancé has not, so he was a little skeptical about how an afternoon of engagement photos was going to go. Brian put him and us at ease right away, and it really showed in the finished product. He was cracking jokes from start to finish. Natural smiles were flowing and we got so many great shots. Having Brian photograph our engagement and wedding was the second best decision we made! (Getting married being the first, of course!) Brian has been amazing to work with. He is easygoing and thoughtful, but his experience and expertise is obvious – which means he gets great shots quickly. He put us at ease so that our photos look relaxed and amazing, but he also helped with little details like how to fold a pocket square. He’s a pre-approved photographer at Duke Chapel, which means they trust him to follow the rules (so we didn’t have to worry) and he knew how to get all those amazing shots you want without being disruptive. He also managed to get the traditional shots our parents wanted as well as some more modern/artsy shots that we especially love. We got our gallery so quickly – with an incredible number of great shots to choose from, and we can’t wait for the book he’s preparing. Brian was probably the best hiring decision we made for our wedding and we highly recommend him.

We received our photos just four short weeks after the wedding. In the meantime, he sent us “sneak peaks” to get us excited about what was to come. I’d highly recommend Brian. Anyone who has ever planned a large event knows that the only thing to expect is the unexpected.  Hiring Brian felt like hiring a photographer, a crazy-relative-whisperer, a bodyguard, a venue manager, and a comedian all at once. He knew the Duke Chapel inside and out (including a LOT of unusual rules and requirements) and he brought his signature sense of calm and humor to every aspect of the day. He was able to capture all the shots I wanted and many that I didn’t even think were possible! And he was so incredibly patient with me as I procrastinated on finishing my wedding book. If you’re looking for someone steady, calm, and immensely capable to be a part of your big day, I can’t recommend him enough.

Brian and his assistant really captured the day, from pre-ceremony pictures of the bride and her maids, walking in with her Dad, the vows exchanged, speeches, cake cutting, to the celebratory dancing that went on all night long. From the very beginning of our wedding planning, I knew the wedding photography was going to be one of the most important vendors to research and secure. After picking our venue in Beaufort, NC, the research began! The challenge lies in finding someone you trust enough to capture the most important day of a couples life. There aren’t too many photographers in the Beaufort area, so I opened my search to Raleigh NC and luckily found Brian through a family member who had worked with him at the Umstead Hotel. I heard nothing but positive remarks and feedback – so I called with the hope that he would be available and part of our Day. 

From the moment I spoke to Brian, I immediately felt at ease. He was extremely positive, excited about the opportunity to work with us, and immediately made us feel as if we were the only couple he was working with. He helped us create a package that fit our needs and helped us understand the possibilities of what our day could be like with his eyes behind the camera. He showed us his most recent weddings and the creative options we could be part of. His preparation was extremely organized – which is what a bride looks for when trusting their wedding photography to someone.

Needless to say, our Wedding Day didn’t disappoint, and neither did Brian. Even though Brian had never seen the location, he took the venue/location head on, and captured the most amazing shots and moments from the beginning to the very end of the event. It was almost like he wasn’t even there once the ceremony and reception began. It was one of the most magical moments/experiences of my life and he captured it all – on his own!

Brian is not only an exceptional photographer, but a wonderful human being. You can see for yourself that his pictures are phenomenal. But what truly sets Brian apart is his ability to make the situation of handling family members and taking pictures fun. The engagement session was so much fun – and the pictures were incredible. The wedding family group shots were fun, too. He knows how to do this, and is good at keeping everything under control. I cannot recommend him enough. I walked away from it all knowing that the pictures would be gorgeous, and I had nothing to worry about.

My husband and I worked with Brian for our wedding on 3/8/2015, and we honestly couldn’t be happier! When I first met with Brian, we clicked instantly and even went on a 30 minute tangent about an engineering problem (since I’m an engineer at Duke and he was an electrical engineer before he switched to photography!)! :) Brian took our engagement pictures in July of 2014, and he helped us to relax and be natural/cute/romantic without worrying about him taking pictures of us! The pictures turned out beautifully, and we had several on display at the reception! Brian made the planning process easy for us, which we definitely appreciated! On the wedding day, Brian and Jenn Aan were organized and made sure to get the pictures on our wish list! We had a lot of fun working with them! It made us feel really reassured to know that Brian and Jenn had worked at Duke Chapel before and so they could make sure to get plenty of pictures in the limited time we were allowed at the Chapel! They also were there to get pictures of the fun and dancing at the reception, and they did a great job getting pictures of everyone having a blast! I honestly cannot wait to see the pictures once they’re ready! Brian posted one picture of us as a preview on FaceBook, and it was so beautiful! I don’t think you can tell, but Jenn was holding my veil to get the “blowing in the wind” look! She also helped us feel less awkward since in some pictures we were kissing with her like right there haha (thanks Jenn!) I also really appreciated Jenn and Brian’s attention to detail! Brian must have gotten some cool pictures of the dress in the Chapel parlor with, and Jenn helped a lot to keep the guys’ jackets from rising up their arms! And both Brian and Jenn are so nice; I was not worried at all about if they would do a good job or get the pics I wanted because I knew they would if I asked! Brian’s familiarity with the Chapel also helped us make sure we were in the right place at the right time! I also remember during the engagement picture session that Brian knew a lot about optics and cameras. He was explaining how the light intensity and angle etc. all worked together to affect the lighting in the picture, and he also explained how to best position the camera, us, etc. to get the best lighting! (I may have enjoyed it more because I’m an engineer and working with medical imaging and therefore optics!) Overall, I can’t say enough to fully capture just how good of a photographer and person that Brian is, and I am so excited to see the wedding pictures when they’re ready! :) Thanks so much Brian and Jenn!!!

Brian photographed my wedding and I couldn’t be happier with the results. It was an investment, yes, but it was easily one of the most important parts of my wedding plan, and I know I chose wisely. He brought two assistants along and captured the posed photos and spontaneous moments over the course of the day. His reception photography was particularly impressive–he photographed us in low lighting, so he used external flash to avoid blurry photos, but the end results looked as crisp and clear and not overblown as those from earlier in the day. The man clearly knows his stuff and handled capturing our special moments in all sorts of lighting. Plus, I got high-res copies of my images so I could share and print accordingly.

My husband and I met Brian a year before our wedding, which we were planning from around 400 miles away. After having to reschedule our first meeting (i was a bit under the weather on the way back from a different wedding down south;-), we finally got to sit down and chat with Brian and see what amazing work he did first hand. I’d seen his photo’s online, and really liked his work, the artistic images that also captured the people and the FUN. That was the thing that struck me about Brian, all his photos were active, you could see the party through his eyes and see what a good time the people were having. I knew that was the kind of view i wanted of my wedding, and also knew that he could fit in with our rowdy friends!!

Brian was easy to contact through the phone and email after we had signed the contract, and we continued to stay in touch and plan from afar. Brian did SUCH an AMAZING job the whole day, from running between the two rooms to get pictures of both groups getting ready, to making sure we had water, bustling my dress, and trying to teach me the wobble. Everything they did made the day what it was all the while capturing special moments that i will cherish forever. I cant thank them enough, but i will try – SO THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, and I hope to see you when i’m in the area again!!!!!

After doing tons of research, pouring over portfolios, and interviewing a number of perspective photographers, we made the (smart) decision to go with Brian. His work is just stunning! I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of his photographs, and the fact that he could deliver amazing results in both natural and low light. I was not impressed with the number of photographers I came across with trendy, hipster, washed-out photos. Brian’s work was refreshing–his photos were classic, and strong, something I knew I could look at and still love in 50 years. Working with him was a blast. They make you laugh and feel comfortable. Brian knows how to pose your body so that you look your best. When we were reviewing our photos, several times I had to ask him if he had retouched them to make me look thinner, and he hadn’t. Our photos were such a hit that my brother-in-law and his amateur photographer fiancé (now wife) hired Brian for their wedding too. We cannot recommend Brian enough! We are captivated by our photos.

One Brian Mullins, famed photographer of the Raleigh Triangle area, has done it again! With skill and sheer mastery of both setting and sensuality involved in weddings and other romantic environs he has deftly captured perfect moments–again and again and again. Our wedding will never be the same! So you want a mental picture of how good this man is at his craft?! Five Google Stars are NO MATCH for the quality of Mullins’ creations.

If you could taste a picture–nay, a masterpiece–then kings would line up for each decadent concoction! Opening your closet to find fourteen singing-dancing monkeys would be less rare than finding a bad photograph by said artisan. In short, deciding to INVITE Mullins to shoot your event is exactly the same as deciding whether to live at a six star hotel or spend the night in a cardboard box with the hobos under an I-40 overpass: there is no choice. You just hire Brian and hope the hobos who didn’t make the same choice don’t resent you for it.

After a horrible experience with another photographer pulling out of our arrangement mere weeks before our wedding, I frantically sent out emails asking photographers if they were available and could work with the budget and custom package I had set up previously. Brian came to the rescue! He got in our engagement photos, despite my crazy travel schedule, and got the pictures back to us lickity split so we could print some out to display at the wedding. I was able to pickup my wedding pictures 2 weeks later! Awesome! And was able to view pictures on the online gallery before that. The downside I had was that I only have 1 picture of me with a guest, where you can actually see their face. All the other guests disappear into the background or it’s a picture of my face and the back of their head as I’m talking/hugging them. Brian is literally an older version of my husband, so personalities meshed fabulously. We had so much fun goofing around, and were able to get a lot of unexpectedly wonderful photos. I am so proud to display these pictures in my home.

Brian and his team were absolutely phenomenal to work with. Brian helped me and my husband plan from over 500 miles away and was always easy to get a hold of by phone or email. He got all the shots without being seen somehow, and they even went above and beyond by helping bustle my dress, hold flowers, get us drinks and anything else we needed! After an extensive search and comparison of 20+ leading North Carolina wedding photographers, Brian’s work kept jumping out at me. His photos had the “in the moment” artistic and photojournalistic style that I was looking for, coupled with top-quality crisp and well-framed shots. After our initial phone call, it was clear to me this guy was not only a stellar photographer, but that he knew the ins-and-outs of shooting a wedding. I have gotten so many fantastic comments about the bridal portraits and how they turned out. My wedding designer saw some of the pics and picked me as the feature bride for the design. Another photographer that I have worked with before on some pet projects and boudoir saw them and thought they were incredible. Great job!
